Resident Evil 8 (Village): Is It Really the Best?

 Hello again, folks!

Today, I'm sharing my take on Resident Evil 8, dividing the critique into personal opinions and some collective points that many agree on. I hope you enjoy this article, and I'm not hating on the game at all—just explaining why I'm not fully convinced by it. Let's dive in!

Paragraph 1: Part 7 is Good... But Not a True Resident Evil!

Part 7 (RE7) was a nice return to pure horror, with Ethan's story being enjoyable and scary. But is it connected to the series? No! It doesn't tie into previous events at all; it was just a standalone horror game to restore the series' reputation after the failure of Part 6. In 6, the hype was all on Jack Baker as the hero, but everything changed due to that flop.

7 is good as a horror game on its own, but not "Resident Evil" in the classic sense like 2 or 4.

Paragraph 2: DLC "Not a Hero" - The Complete Disaster!

They bring in Chris Redfield, the strongest human fighter, who defeated Wesker in 1 and 5, and with Piers defeated Haos (considered the strongest monster

in the series) in 6, and pit him against a worn-out guy like Lucas Baker, and tell you the knife scene is logical?! Chris can't push away a mere fool trying to stab him?! That's an insult to the character! They completely changed his appearance, making him look like a totally different person.

This DLC is just an hour long and free, but its quality is worse than 6, and no one liked it except a few who don't know the real Chris (the B.O.W. killer beast).

Paragraph 3: Part 8 - A Failure and a Success at the Same Time (3 Main Factors)

I'll break it down into 3 points: Chris, Miranda, Similarities Without Soul.

1. Chris: From Hero to Mysterious Fool! 🤦‍♂️

In 5, 6, and 1, Chris was a clear hero, but here he turns mysterious without a strong justification. The idea of doubting Ethan's info to build shock is nice, but Chris monitored Miranda (in Mia's form) for entire months?! Insanity! He knows her whole goal; what's new?

The biggest plot hole: After the shock, Ethan meets him again and Chris is still mysterious! The dialogues are dragged out (two full encounters!) just to explain, and each time he ignores explaining until he "decides." Not a flaw in Chris, but in the writer who doesn't know the character! Like the insult in the DLC.

And this writer is somewhat of a porn writer, penning novels on purely sexual topics... What do we expect except maybe Ethan and Chris? 😂

Miranda: The Villain with a Logical Goal... But Failed Execution!

Her goal to retrieve her daughter Eva is a solid idea, but Spencer (the series' villain) was her student?! It doesn't connect to the Spencer family we built. And living with Ethan for months to steal Rose?! She could have kidnapped her in a week!

And when she kills the villagers "to instill fear"? Ethan survived (and even mocked her at the time), so even if the scene was meant to show her madness, it failed—Ethan just made me laugh!

The good part: The evil mother concept and fighting her was fun.

3. Similarities and Differences: Copy-Paste Without Soul

The Merchant (Duke): A worse copy of the merchant from 4, worse voice, worse sales.

Lake Boss (Moreau): The worst boss, turned off many players.

Lady Dimitrescu's Castle: A copy of Salazar's castle in 4, bland because it's filled with sex (Lady designed sexually). Her 3 daughters are bugs, not scary; you jump from their sudden appearances, but not afraid if they're behind you.

Ethan's Story: Saving his wife in 7, daughter in 8... A bit repetitive.

Puzzles: Dumbest puzzle: Collect Rose's body parts to open a door! Illogical, like the desk puzzle in Leon's 2.

The Good in 8 DLC: Rose! Her relationship with Ethan is cute, their interactions sweet, and his third death (since 7) was impactful. Everyone knows he was dead since 7.

Conclusion: A Mid-Tier Game for Fun, Not the Best Part!

Not a total disaster like 6, nor absolute creativity like 4. I loved Ethan, yes, but does it advance the story No. My curiosity is bigger about Chris or Leon than EthanI know that's because I'm an old series player, but everyone has an opinion. With that said, I loved Ethan. Hope you enjoyed! This is The Smiling Shark! 🦈
